Atlas Punches In at Hyundai
The backflip robot got a job. The era of humanoids as YouTube content is ending. The era of humanoids as line workers is starting, slowly, in Georgia.
For a decade Boston Dynamics was the best marketing department in robotics: parkour videos, dancing compilations, a hundred million views per upload. The knock was always the same. Cool robot. Who pays for it?
The answer turned out to be the parent company. Electric Atlas is going to work in Hyundai's manufacturing operations, with 2026 production reportedly fully committed and initial fleets headed to Hyundai and Google DeepMind. A captive customer is still a customer, and a factory shift is still a shift.
The pattern across the industry is identical: Figure with BMW, Atlas with Hyundai, Optimus aimed at Tesla's own lines. Every serious humanoid program is starting in a factory owned or partnered with its backer, because factories are structured, repetitive, and forgiving of a robot that needs a minute. Your house is none of those things, which is why the home robot remains a keynote slide.
Timeline honesty: hundreds to low thousands of productive humanoids globally by end of 2026. This is the Apple II era, not the iPhone era. Position accordingly.
