Greenland Has the Rocks. GEOM Wants the Receipts.

Two publicly listed operators, one very large island, and a plan to put the world's oil and mineral assets on a single verified map. We read the filings and the whitepaper so you can pretend you did.

Everyone spent the past two years arguing about who should own Greenland. A quieter group of people spent it acquiring licenses there. GEOM, short for Greenland Energy, Oil and Minerals, is the umbrella brand those people now operate under, and the pitch is simple enough to fit on a hat: the oldest asset class on earth should come with receipts.

Start with the operators, because GEOM is unusual in that there are some. Greenland Energy Company (Nasdaq: GLND) holds oil licenses in the Jameson Land Basin in East Greenland and has an agreement with Halliburton to support its 2026 drilling campaign. That is not a rendering of a rig. That is Halliburton, with a contract, on a basin geologists have been staring at longingly since the 1980s.

On the other side of the island, USFM Corporation is chasing critical minerals in the Disko-Nuussuaq region of West Greenland, a nickel-copper district that gets compared to Norilsk by people who are paid to be careful with comparisons. USFM is heading to a NYSE American listing through its combination with Twin Vee. So both flagship operators either are public or are about to be, which means audited financials, filings, and all the boring adult supervision the sector usually lacks.

Somebody finally decided the oldest asset class on earth should come with receipts.

The software layer is the actual idea: one verified map of energy and mineral assets, where every record is signed, timestamped, and checkable, instead of living in a PDF that was last updated when the geologist retired. GEOM calls it reading the ground first. We call it the least glamorous good idea in commodities, which historically is the kind that works.

The model they invoke is Franco-Nevada, the royalty company that built a $30 billion business by quietly owning slices of other people's mines. GEOM wants that kind of cash flow legible and portable. There is also a token involved, because this is 2026 and there is always a token. We cover companies, not coins, so we will simply note it exists and keep our helmets on.

The desk take: Greenland is the rare story where the geology, the geopolitics, and the capital markets all point the same direction at the same time. The Vikings sailed past all of it twice. The current crowd appears unwilling to make that mistake a third time.

Sourcing: geom.org, company announcements from Greenland Energy Company and USFM Corporation, and public X posts from @Geom_Global, August 2026. Nothing here is advice. Positions: none on this desk.
